Last night U.S. Senators Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) and Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) introduced legislation which will require that 100 percent of fuel surcharges paid by shippers be passed through to whoever actually pays for the fuel to haul the shipper’s goods, obviously in most cases that’s truckers.

Attention: Illinois truckers! Two bills in the Illinois House would reduce and eliminate the speed gap between trucks and other vehicles on rural, interstate highways. It is imperative that you take time now to contact members of the House Drivers Education and Safety Committee about these bills. The committee is scheduled to discuss them Wednesday, March 5.

Heads up, Florida truckers! The House Infrastructure Committee is scheduled to consider a bill – HB351 – Thursday, Feb. 21, that would allow red-light cameras to be posted throughout the state. It is extremely important to speak out on this revenue-generating mechanism.

Attention Connecticut truckers! It is imperative that you take time now to contact members of the Transportation Committee and share your concerns about a bill that would force car and truck drivers to remove ice and snow from their vehicles before taking to roadways. The committee is scheduled to discuss the bill Wednesday, Feb. 20.

Information Update - OOIDA Members in PA's 3rd Congressional District
This Saturday, February 2nd, Congressman Phil English will be traveling through Pennsylvania’s 3rd Congressional District announcing his intention to run for reelection to the U.S. House of Representatives.  Although this notice is not intended to be an endorsement of Congressman English, the Congressman has been helpful in his opposition to Act 44, and Pennsylvania’s application to the Federal Highway Administration to allow tolling on I-80.

Please contact your U.S. Sens. Arlen Specter, R, and Robert Casey Jr., D, and ask them to support keeping tolls off Interstate 80. From what we understand, Sen. Specter doesn’t want to get involved and Sen. Casey is “on the fence.” Both need to know how you feel and how tolls on I-80 will affect your livelihood.
