6/20/03-A bill that would have required tractor-trailers to stay out of
the left lane of some parts of the state’s interstates has died.
SB390, which would have set the fine at $150 for the first offense
and $300 for any subsequent offense, was still in the Senate Commerce, Transportation
and Utilities Committee when the Legislature’s regular session ended
June 16.
4/8/03-A Senate bill
would require tractor-trailers to stay out of the left lane of
some parts of the state’s interstates.
SB390, introduced by Sen. Charles Steele, D-Tuscaloosa,
would not allow a tractor-trailer’s
operator to drive in the left lane unless directed to do so by
a law-enforcement officer, in an emergency, or when required
to enter or exit the highway.
The bill is now before the Senate Commerce, Transportation and Utilities Committee.
