6/20/03-A bill that would have required tractor-trailers to stay out of the left lane of some parts of the state’s interstates has died.
SB390, which would have set the fine at $150 for the first offense and $300 for any subsequent offense, was still in the Senate Commerce, Transportation and Utilities Committee when the Legislature’s regular session ended June 16.

4/8/03-A Senate bill would require tractor-trailers to stay out of the left lane of some parts of the state’s interstates.
SB390, introduced by Sen. Charles Steele, D-Tuscaloosa, would not allow a tractor-trailer’s operator to drive in the left lane unless directed to do so by a law-enforcement officer, in an emergency, or when required to enter or exit the highway.
The bill is now before the Senate Commerce, Transportation and Utilities Committee. For Senate bill status, call (334) 242-7800. In Alabama, call 1-800-499-3051.
