6/11/03-An attempt to set up a split speed limit for trucks has likely died for this year.
SB8 would have set a maximum speed limit on the state’s interstates of 65 mph for tractor-trailers. The current speed limit on interstates is 70 mph.
The bill would have also restricted trucks to the right lane or lanes of highways and set the fine for either offense at $150 for the first offense and $300 for any subsequent offense.
The bill was given a favorable recommendation by the Senate Commerce, Transportation and Utilities Committee. However, it has not yet passed the full Senate.

The bill, introduced by Sen. Larry Means, D-Atalla, would also restrict trucks from driving in the left lane.
