7/30/03-A bill that would have banned junk e-mail, commonly referred to
as "spam," has died in an Assembly committee.
SB12, sponsored by Sen. Debra Bowen, D-Redondo Beach, would have
allowed consumers to sue for $500 for each unsolicited junk e-mail received
in their computer mailbox.
The measure, previously approved by the Senate, failed to muster
the necessary seven votes to gain passage from the Assembly Committee on
Business and Professions.
