12/2/03 - After only a day in the Assembly, a bill that would overturn a law that allowed illegal immigrants to obtain valid driver’s licenses has passed and is on the way to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger for his signature.
The bill, SBX3 1, introduced Nov. 19, would repeal SB60, the legislation passed earlier this year and signed into law by former Gov. Gray Davis that allowed the licenses to be issued.
SBX3 1 passed out of a Senate committee, moved to the floor and passed the Senate 33-0 Nov. 24. It was given a unanimous thumbs up by the Assembly Transportation Committee just a day later.
On Dec. 1, the bill passed the Assembly Transportation Committee, was referred to and approved by the Assembly Appropriations Committee and passed the full Assembly by a vote of 64-9.
It is considered likely that Schwarzenegger will quickly sign the new measure.
SB60 did not apply to commercial driver’s licenses.

11/25/03 - The General Assembly is acting quickly to reverse a law that allowed illegal immigrants to obtain valid driver’s licenses.
SBX3 1, which was introduced Nov. 19, would repeal SB60, the bill passed earlier this year and signed into law by former Gov. Gray Davis that allowed the licenses to be issued.
The bill passed out of committee, was moved to the floor and passed by the Senate 33-0 on Nov. 24. It is now headed to the Assembly.
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger had pledged to overturn the law.
The measure did not apply to commercial driver’s licenses.
