1/20/03-The state's
Business, Transportation and Housing Agency is pushing legislation to
make up for a $235 million shortfall in the state's commercial vehicle
weight fee system. To make up for the deficit, the group proposes increasing
the standard registration fee, established under the Commercial Vehicle
Registration Act of 2000, from $82 to $122. The agency anticipates the
fee change will help remedy the $215 million revenue shortfall in the
state highway account and $20 million deficit in the motor vehicle account.
