12/15/03-Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and leaders of the General Assembly have worked out a budget deal.
Contained in that deal is a huge cut in transportation funds – in the range of $5.4 billion – and the transfer of up to $1 billion more to other parts of the budget. Numerous highway projects are included in that total, including many designed to cut congestion.
The governor made his plan public at a meeting of the California Transportation Commission Dec. 11. It could affect more than 140 projects statewide.
