4/10/03 - HB5982, introduced by Rep. Brian O'Connor, D-Westbrook, which would cut the speed limit for tractor-trailers on Connecticut highways from 65 mph to 55 mph, is effectively dead for this year.
The bill was still listed in the Joint Committee on Transportation on April 8. In addition, a committee spokesman said the panel’s deadline to pass bills this year – April 2 – had passed, effectively killing the bill for this session. However, he said, such a measure could be amended onto another bill on the House floor.

3/5/03 - Rep. Brian O'Connor, D-Westbrook, has introduced a measure to require trucks to travel 10 mph slower than other vehicles on Connecticut highways.
Under HB5982, truckers would be slowed from 65 mph to 55 mph. All other motorists would continue to cruise at 65 mph.
The bill is in the Joint Committee on Transportation. It is vital you contact the committee members to let them know what split speeds would mean to road safety. For contact information, visit www.cga.ct.gov, or call OOIDA's membership department at 1-800-444-5791 and they'll look it up.
For bill status, call (860) 240-0500.
