5/5/03 - A bill that offers an exemption to driver's license requirements for certain tractor-trailer drivers has died for this year in the Legislature.
SB300 would allow drivers operating a truck between 8,000 and 26,000 pounds or a truck more than 80 inches wide, but who use the truck for “private use,” to use a Class E license.
Up till now, anyone driving a truck with those measurements had to have a Class D license.

3/6/03 - A Florida bill that offers an exemption to driver's license requirements for certain tractor-trailer drivers has passed a Senate committee.
The Senate Transportation Committee voted 9-0 on March 5 in favor of S300.
Under the bill, drivers operating a truck between 8,000 and 26,000 pounds or a truck more than 80 inches wide, but who use the truck for "private use," can use a Class E license. Up till now, anyone driving a truck with those measurements had to have a Class D license.
The bill is in three different Senate committees: The Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, the Economic Development Committee and the full Appropriations Committee. If it passes those panels, it will be voted on by the full Senate.

The measure was prefiled Jan. 10 and has been referred to the Senate Transportation Committee and the Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation and Economic Development.
