2/15/02 - Reps. Greg Morris (D-Vidalia) and Jim Stokes (D-Covington) are sponsoring a bill setting maximum speed limits for vehicles with less than 14 wheels and combinations of vehicles having 14 wheels or more. HB959 sets speed limits of 30 mph in any urban or residential district, 35 on an unpaved county road for any vehicle. The bill sets 70 mph for any vehicle with fewer than 14 wheels on a federal interstate outside of an urban area of 50,000 or more and 60 mph for vehicles having 14 wheels or more. Inside an urbanized area on a federal interstate, it would be 65/55. The bill sets 65 mph for any vehicle or combination of vehicles having less than 14 wheels on physically divided highways without full access on the state highway system and 55 mph for vehicles or combinations of vehicles having 14 wheels or more on same. If passed, HB959 will repeal previous law. The House bill status number is (404) 656-5015.
