OOIDA Call
to Action – Iowa
Members
April 7, 2003
Heads up, Iowa truckers! Legislation in the state House needs your attention.
A bill that would increase the interstate speed limit to 70 mph now contains
a provision that would split speeds for vehicles weighing more than 10,000
pounds.
HF532, formerly HSB1000, would move the speed limit for cars to 70
mph. Amendment 1114, filed March 20, would decrease the interstate speeds
5 mph for larger vehicles, including semis.
The bill is awaiting debate before the full House. To have a chance
to become law, the bill must pass the House and be forwarded to a Senate
committee by April 11.
It is vital you contact your elected House official and let them know
the importance of uniform speeds to road safety. For contact information,
visit www.legis.state.ia.us/GA/80GA/House/Members/,
or call OOIDA’s
membership department at 1-800-444-5791 and they’ll look it up
