4/17/03 - HF532, formerly known as HSB100, appears to be dead for the year. The bill would increase the interstate speed limit for cars from 65 mph to 70 mph, but drop it from 65 mph to 60 mph for vehicles weighing more than 10,000 pounds.

4/7/03 - A bill that would increase the interstate speed limit to 70 mph now contains a provision that would split speeds for vehicles weighing more than 10,000 pounds.
HF532, formerly HSB1000, would move the speed limit for cars to 70 mph. Amendment 1114, filed March 20, would decrease the interstate speeds 5 mph for larger vehicles, including semis.
The bill is awaiting debate before the full House. To have a chance to become law, it must pass the House and be forwarded to a Senate committee by April 11.

3/17/03 - A bill in Iowa that would increase the interstate speed limit to 70 mph was placed on the calendar for debate and a possible vote before the full House.
HF532, which was formerly known as HSB100, would move the speed limit on interstates to 70 mph, but leave it at 65 mph on non-interstate four-lane divided highways.
The measure passed the House Transportation Committee by an 11-9 vote March 11. It is likely to remain on the House calendar for at least a week, and may be amended on the floor. To have a chance to become law, it must be passed and moved over to a Senate committee by April 11.
