Action Needed by Illinois Drivers
Earlier this year, lawmakers in Illinois passed legislation that would eliminate the state’s split speed limits creating a uniform 65 mph speed limit on the state’s rural interstates.
The legislation – HB1186 – was overwhelmingly approved by lawmakers, but thus far the governor hasn’t signed the bill. If he doesn’t sign it by Aug. 5, the legislation dies.
According to published reports, the AAA-Chicago Motor Club is opposing a change in the speed limits. The AAA-Chicago Motor Club issued a press release in early June announcing their opposition. The release also contained blatantly inaccurate information.
It appears that if the governor is going to sign this bill as he should, further convincing will be needed especially from AAA members.
Many truckers are also AAA members. Many family members of truckers are members of AAA.
Tell any and all AAA members to immediately contact the governor and urge him to sign HB1186 in the interests of highway safety.
Act now. The bill must be signed by Aug. 5 or it’s dead.
Use every method to contact the Governor – e-mail, snail mail and the telephone.
Send correspondence for Gov. Blagojevich to governor@state.il.us and to the Office of the Governor, 207 State House, Springfield, IL, 62706; (217) 782-0244 or 1-888-261-3336.
