10/29/03-As
the General Assembly prepared for its veto session in
November, lawmakers sympathetic
to trucking introduced several bills designed to reverse parts
of SB841 – a
recently imposed Commercial Distribution Fee and tax on rolling
stock.
One of those bills is SB2095, introduced by Sens. George P. Shadid, D-Pekin, and Vince Demuzio, D-Carlinville. The bill would restore the rolling stock exemption as it was before July 1; end the $50 per trucking employee tax credit created by SB841 after 2007; and gradually reduce the Commercial Distribution Fee each year, completely eliminating it by July 1, 2006.
The bill was introduced Oct. 23, and is now before the Senate Rules Committee. For bill status, call (217) 782-3944.
