10/29/03 - As
the General Assembly prepared for its veto session in
November, lawmakers sympathetic
to trucking introduced several bills designed to reverse parts
of SB841 – a
recently imposed Commercial Distribution Fee and tax on rolling
stock.
One of those bills is SB2095, introduced by Sens. George
P. Shadid, D-Pekin, and Vince Demuzio, D-Carlinville. The bill would restore
the rolling stock
exemption as it was before July 1; end the $50 per trucking employee
tax credit created by SB841 after 2007; and gradually reduce the Commercial
Distribution
Fee each year, completely eliminating it by July 1, 2006.
The bill was introduced Oct. 23, and is now before the Senate Rules Committee.
