OOIDA Call to Action - Indiana Members
March 7, 2003

Heads up, Indiana truckers! Legislation in the state House needs your attention.

A bill in the Indiana House would increase the speed limit on many of the state's highways while eliminating split speeds.
Currently, the speed limit on Indiana interstates is set at 65 mph for most vehicles and 60 mph for trucks. On other highways, the limit for all vehicles is 55 mph.
HB1915 would give the state Transportation Department or local authorities the option of raising the speed limit on non-interstate rural highways to 65 mph. The bill would eliminate the split speed designation on those roadways.
The provision splitting the speed limit on interstate highways would remain part of state law.
The bill is now before the House Committee on Roads and Transportation.
It is vital you contact the committee members and let them know the importance of uniform speeds to road safety.
