10/8/03 - A bill that would increase the state’s fuel tax to pay for road work is dead.
HB1687, introduced by Rep. Ron Liggett, D-Redkey, would have sent part of fuel tax money raised to cities and counties for local street work.
It was in the House Committee on Ways and Means when legislators adjourned for the year in April.

2/20/03 - A bill introduced by Rep. Ron Liggett, D-Redkey, would increase the state's fuel tax to pay for road work.
HB1687 would send part of fuel tax money raised to cities and counties for local street work.
Under the measure, the fuel tax in the state, which now runs 18 cents per gallon, could go as high as 20 cents by 2004 and 22 cents by 2005. In addition, the tax could never drop below its current rate, or go down once increased.
