2/18/03 - A bill to bring
Kansas' current fiscal year budget into balance has passed the
Legislature and moved on to the governor for her signature.
The final version of the measure - which would withhold millions
of dollars previously earmarked for highway projects to help balance
the state's ledger - called for the money to be repaid beginning
in 2007.
Meanwhile, the next fiscal year's budget, which will take effect
July 1, 2003, is still in various committees in the House and Senate.
That bill would also borrow money from the highway fund.
2/10/03 - The proposed state budget, which would withhold millions of dollars previously earmarked for highway projects to help balance the state's ledger, won tentative approval from the state's Senate. The House had already passed a different version of the budget, and the two chambers will have to work out differences in the two versions.
