7/10/03-A bill that would have restricted passing for heavy-trucks has died.
HB241 would have restricted heavy trucks, weighing at least 5,000 pounds, from passing any motor vehicle on an elevated thoroughfare or on a street or highway within a municipality. The proposal called for violators to be fined $500.
Current law does not prevent cities from adopting this ordinance, but the proposal specifically authorized the ordinance.
The bill was still in the House transportation committee when the Legislature adjourned June 23.
