7/10/03 - A bill that would have restricted passing for heavy-trucks has died.
HB241 would have restricted heavy trucks, weighing at least 5,000
pounds, from passing any motor vehicle on an elevated thoroughfare or on
a street or highway within a municipality. The proposal called for violators
to be fined $500.
Current law does not prevent cities from adopting this ordinance,
but the proposal specifically authorized the ordinance.
The bill was still in the House transportation committee when
the Legislature adjourned June 23.
5/5/03 - State lawmakers are considering a
bill that would restrict passing for heavy trucks.
HB241 would restrict heavy trucks, weighing at least 5,000 pounds, from

the proposed law specifically authorizes the ordinance. Additionally, the proposal
requires
signs be posted before such ordinance could become effective.
