4/17/03-A fuel tax revenue package intended to help patch a gaping hole in the state budget failed to pass out of committee before the regular session ended earlier this month.
HB910 would increase the motor fuel tax by 5 cents a gallon and the sales tax by 1 percent for 2004 and 2005. This tax increase would combine with income tax provisions.

4/4/03-House lawmakers are considering a fuel tax revenue package to help patch a gaping hole in the state budget.
Reported estimates put this year’s budget deficit at more than $500 million, with another $1.2 billion shortfall predicted for 2004.
HB910, sponsored by Delegate Clarence Davis, D-Baltimore, would increase the motor fuel tax by 5 cents a gallon and the sales tax by 1 percent for 2004 and 2005. This tax increase is combined with income tax provisions.
It is in the House Ways & Means Committee. Three similar tax proposals – HB1020, HB1163 and SB758 – also are being considered in the Assembly.
