12/12/03-Gov. John Baldacci signed LD1467 on May 21 repealing the provision requiring permits for 53-foot trailers.
The new law, which takes effect Jan. 1, 2004, increases annual registration fees for semitrailers exceeding 2,000 pounds from $18 to $20. Registration fees increase from $10 to $12 under the eight-year and 12-year semipermanent registration plate program and the 20-year semipermanent semitrailer registration plate program. No changes were made to the permanent registration program.
All route restrictions on such equipment will remain as before.
