Senate panel is reviewing legislation that would increase
penalties for drivers who violate traffic laws while
chatting on a cell phone.
SB555, sponsored by Sen. Bruce Patterson, R-Canton, would
add a point to a driver’s
license for anyone who breaks traffic laws while using a cell phone.
Under the proposal before the Senate Committee on Technology and Energy, police
would have to say that use of the phone contributed to the infraction for the
tougher penalty to apply.
