5/20/03-A bill that raises the speed limit on the state’s rural two-lane highways from 55 mph to 65 mph only during the day has been tabled until the Legislature reconvenes in February 2004.
Under HF1071, speeds would remain at 55 mph at night. Speeding fines would remain unchanged.
The bill was in the House Ways and Means Committee when the regular legislative session adjourned May 19.

4/30/03-A legislative panel is reviewing a proposal to raise speed limits on the state’s two-lane highways.
The House Transportation Finance Committee is considering a bill that raises the speed limit on the rural highways from 55 mph to 65 mph only during the day. Speeds would remain at 55 mph at night.
Under HF1071, sponsored by Rep. Marty Seifert, R-Marshall, the Minnesota Department of Transportation would decide what highways might be too dangerous for the higher limit.
Speeding fines would remain unchanged under the bill.
