4/4/03-Sen. Claire Robling, R-Jordan, has proposed legislation that
would privatize rest areas.
SF1355 would allow the Minnesota Department of Transportation to lease
rest areas to local governments, private companies and nonprofit organizations.
“
Revenues from leases authorized under this section must be deposited
in a highway rest stop lease account in the special revenue fund. Money
in the account is appropriated to the commissioner of transportation
to administer the highway rest stop program,” Robling wrote.
The bill is in the Senate Finance Committee. An identical bill – HF1414 – is
in the House Transportation Policy Committee.
