Bob Holden vetoed a broad transportation bill in July that included several
provisions
on commercial drivers. HB327 called for restricting big rigs
in excess of 48,000 pounds from driving in the left lane on urban roadways.
The measure
also called for toughened penalties for commercial drivers convicted
of driving offenses while not on the job.
In addition, it required CDL applicants to list all states that
have issued them a commercial license over the past 10 years.
Holden said he vetoed the bill chiefly because of a section that would
have exempted contractors from paying sales tax on materials used in
state transportation projects.
