5/7/03-A Senate bill to lower maximum speed limits on roads in certain counties appears to be dead for the year.
Under SB227, the maximum posted speed limit in any second, third of fourth classification county should not exceed 55 mph. If the county commission does not mark the roads with signs indicating the designated speed limit, the speed limit would be 45 mph by default.
Currently, the unposted speed limit on most county roads is 60 mph.
The measure was sent earlier this year to the Senate floor only to be removed from consideration.

2/25/03-Missouri lawmakers are considering a bill that would lower maximum speed limits on roads in certain counties.
SB227 Senate Committee Substitute, introduced by Sen. John Cauthorn, R-Mexico, proposes the maximum posted speed limit in any second, third of fourth classification county should not exceed 55 mph.
If the county commission does not mark the roads with signs indicating the designated speed limit, the limit will be 45 mph by default.
Currently, the unposted speed limit on most county roads is 60 mph.
The Senate Transportation Committee approved Feb. 24 its SB227/SCS. The next stop is the Senate floor for a vote.
