5/7/03-Drivers in northwestern Montana will
soon be permitted to drive 70 mph on a portion of U.S. Highway 93.
HB259, sponsored by Rep. Rick Maedje, R-Fortine, boosts the speed
limit from 65 mph to 70 mph on the 60-mile stretch of road from Whitefish
to the Canadian border.
The bill was signed by the governor April 30 and is scheduled
to take effect May 23.

3/6/03-A Montana legislator
is seeking passage of a bill to increase the speed limit from 65 mph
to 70 mph on a portion of U.S. Highway 93.
HB259, sponsored by Rep. Rick Maedje, R-Lincoln County, would boost
the speed on U.S. 93 from Whitefish to the Canadian border.
The bill passed the House Feb. 3 by a 80 to 15 vote. It is in the Senate
Highways and Transportation Committee. A public hearing on the measure
is scheduled for March 18.
