5/20/03-A Senate bill that would authorize the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department the use of cameras to ticket drivers who run red lights has been withdrawn from consideration.
Under SB552, a three-year pilot program introduced by Sen. Charlie Dannelly D-Charlotte, police would be allowed to rig the automatic cameras on 14 of Charlotte’s deadliest roadways.
The photo radar, which is a combination camera and radar gun that documents a vehicle’s speed and tags, snaps pictures of speeders and sends them tickets in the mail.
