1/31/03-The House Public
Works and Highways Committee killed a bill Jan. 21 that would have benefited
turnpike drivers who use the upcoming E-ZPass electronic toll collection
system.
HB137 would have given E-ZPass users the same 50 percent discount four-wheelers
now receive when purchasing tokens. In addition, it would have increased
the truckers' discount for using E-ZPass from the 30 percent they
now get to 50 percent.
The NHDOT opposed the bill, saying increasing the truckers' discount
would cost the state more than $1 million in lost revenue in fiscal
year 2005.
