5/7/03-The House Public Works and Highways
Committee rejected legislation that would call for the state to study
building state-owned truck service centers on interstate highways.
HB58 was partly a response to the number of trucks frequenting
Portsmouth’s Ocean Road. Trucks exit I-95 there to visit a Travel
America truckstop on the road ’s western end.

state Rep. Betsy Shultis (D-Portsmouth) has introduced a bill that calls
for the state to study building state-owned truck service centers on
interstate highways.
HB58 is partly a response to the number of trucks frequenting Portsmouth's
Ocean Road, the Portsmouth Herald reported recently. Trucks exit I-95
there to visit a Travel America truckstop on the road's western end.
A study said traffic on the local street has increased during the past
three years from 6,600 vehicles daily to 9,700.
The bill is in the House Public Works and Highways Committee. For bill
