OOIDA Call to Action - New Jersey Members
January 20, 2003

Heads up, New Jersey truckers! Legislation introduced last month in the state Assembly needs your attention.

State Assemblywoman Connie Myers (R-Hunterdon and Warren counties) has introduced a bill (A3127) to create two speed limits by slowing trucks from 65 mph to 55 mph on New Jersey highways.
The proposal for dual speed limits came after a horrific day in November when three separate accidents on Interstates 80, 287 and 78 - all involving trucks - killed three people, injured six and delayed thousands of commuters. State officials said none of the accidents were caused by truckdrivers.
The bill is currently in the Assembly Transportation Committee. It is vital you contact the committee members to let them know what split speeds would mean to road safety. Committee members' contact information is available at www.njleg.state.nj.us/committees/Assembly.asp. Click on the "Transportation" link in the yellow box.
