8/5/03-AB83 has been signed into law permitting engine brake use and
allowing Nevada to conform to federal definitions of longer tractor-trailer
combinations.
The new law, which goes into effect Oct. 1, permits truckers
to use engine brakes as long as the rig is equipped with a muffler
or if there is an emergency situation for the truck. Violators would
be charged with a misdemeanor.
The bill voids the 105-foot length limit for longer tractor-trailer
permits. It also eliminates the maximum permit fee for a combination
vehicle exceeding 80,000 pounds.
It also repeals the alternate weight limitation for trailers.
