8/5/03-The Senate Transportation Committee rejected a bill this spring
that would have required commercial vehicles exceeding 12,000 pounds
to stay out of the left lane on certain highways.
Under SB157, sponsored by Sen. Ray Rawson, R-Las Vegas, trucks
would have been prohibited from driving in the left lane "if a
highway has three or more clearly marked lanes for traffic traveling
in one direction."
Trucks would have been permitted to merge left in certain situations,
including response to emergency personnel, to avoid a safety risk or
another vehicle entering the roadway.
