11/19/03-A1743 would ticket drivers for not shoveling snow and ice
off their vehicle.
The measure would mandate how thoroughly vehicles are cleaned
during the winter.
“
Cleaning snow off of one’s car or truck roof is in line with
the responsibility of making sure a vehicle is safe while on the road,
just as there are fines for non-working headlights and brake lights,” reads
A1743, sponsored by Assembly Republicans Michael Spano of Yonkers and
James Tedisco of Schenectady.
Fines for violators would range from $450 to $1,250 for commercial
vehicles. Fines would range from $150 to $850 for other vehicles. The
law wouldn’t apply to emergency vehicles and motorcycles.
The bill didn’t come up for a vote this year. It is carried over
to next year.
A similar bill – S1523 – shared the same fate.
