3/6/03-Assemblyman
David Koon has sponsored legislation that allows emergency dispatchers
to pinpoint the location of 9-1-1 calls made from cell phones.
A3911 would create the wireless 9-1-1 local incentive funding enhancement
(LIFE) program. It would encourage the development of enhanced wireless
9-1-1 services by providing funding to local wireless emergency dispatch
centers.
The measure would use telephone bill surcharge money to issue bonds
so municipalities can immediately gain funds for e9-1-1 service to cover
service costs, equipment purchases and needed software.
The bill passed the General Assembly Feb. 24. It is in the Senate Finance
Committee.
