7/14/03-An Assembly bill that would have allowed all vehicles to travel at a maximum speed limit of 65 mph on roadways statewide has been substituted with an identical Senate bill.
Assembly lawmakers approved substituting A732 with S1690 in June. The Senate version is awaiting final approval by senators before heading to the governor.

4/3/03-A732 would allow all vehicles to travel at a maximum speed limit of 65 mph on New York roadways statewide.
"This legislation amends the vehicle and traffic law authorizing the New York State Department of Transportation and the New York State Thruway Authority to establish, where appropriate, a 65 mile per hour speed limit on all roadways in New York State," wrote the bill's sponsor, Assemblyman David Gantt, D-133rd District.
If signed into law, the measure would permit "law-abiding citizens to legally and safely travel at speeds which modern highways were designed to accommodate," Gantt wrote.
The measure is in the Assembly Transportation Committee. A similar Senate bill - S1690 - is also in the Assembly Transportation Committee.
