OOIDA Call to Action – Ohio Members
May 19, 2003
Attention: Ohio truckers! Legislation in the General Assembly needs your support.
Rep. Bob Gibbs, R-Lakeville, has introduced a bill – HB186 – to
eliminate split speeds. In addition, Sen. Lynn Wachtmann, R-Napoleon,
is expected to introduce a companion bill this week in the Senate.
The proposals would cut provisions in Ohio law that set up a
slower speed for vehicles with a gross weight of more than 8,000
pounds.
Currently, those vehicles are required to travel 55 mph – 10
mph below the 65 mph limit for other vehicles. Under the new bill,
all vehicles would have a 65 mph speed limit.
It is vital you contact your elected House and Senate officials
and let them know the importance of uniform speeds to road safety.
For contact information, visit www.legislature.state.oh.us/search.cfm#reps_zip,
or call OOIDA’s membership department at 1-800-444-5791 and they’ll
look it up.
