6/11/03-Gov. Brad Henry has signed a bill into
law making it a potential felony to throw something off an overpass or bridge.
SB625 would in some cases require a penalty of up to 10 years
in prison and a $10,000 fine for throwing objects at vehicles.
The new law, which takes effect July 1, would make the crime
a felony if whatever is thrown causes injury or property damage. Throwing
something off that doesn’t cause an injury or property damage would
be a misdemeanor.
5/30/03-A Senate bill that would make it a potential
felony to throw something off an overpass or bridge is headed to the governor.
SB625, written by Sen. Daisy Lawler, D-Comanche, unanimously
passed both legislative chambers. The bill would in some cases
require a penalty of up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine – amended from
a $1,000 fine – for throwing objects at vehicles.
Lawler’s proposal would make the crime a felony if whatever is thrown
causes injury or property damage. Throwing something off that doesn’t
cause an injury or property damage would be a misdemeanor.

House amendments.
