10/24/03-A bill signed into law by Gov. Rick Perry during the regular
session allows the Texas Transportation Commission to initiate truck
lane restrictions on portions of the state highway system.
HB1208, sponsored by Rep. Glenn Lewis, D-Fort Worth, removes
the existing workday and peak traffic hour limitations on lane restrictions
and allows the restrictions to apply to two or more lanes of a portion
of the state highway system.
The bill also requires the Texas Department of Transportation
and counties to consult with any affected municipality to impose such
restrictions. Municipalities already have the authority to propose
such lane restrictions with TxDOT approval.
