7/14/03-Texas truckers tired of junk e-mails may now
be able to quickly identify and delete the sent material.
Gov. Rick Perry has signed legislation requiring unsolicited
e-mails, or “spam,” to be properly labeled in the subject
line to indicate its contents.
Under the new law, e-mails are forbidden to contain false or
deceptive information in the subject line.
HB1282 also creates a civil and criminal penalty against spam.
Violators could potentially be fined $10 for each unsolicited message
and $25,000 for each day the message is received.
It will take effect Sept. 1, 2003.

A bill that would require unsolicited e-mails, or “spam,” to
be properly labeled in the subject line to indicate its contents
has been sent to the governor.
