6/2/03-A bill that would have required drivers
to keep their hands off the phone has died.
SB390, introduced by Sen. Rodney Ellis, D-Houston, called for
banning hand-held cell phone use while driving. Talking on a phone equipped
with a “hands-free” device would still be permitted.
The proposal was in the Senate criminal justice committee when
the regular session ended June 2.

to keep their hands off the phone.
SB390 would ban hand-held cell phone use while driving. The bill
would exempt emergency calls and cell phones that are connected to a "hands-free" device.
