6/9/03-A bid to improve road safety by lowering
the speed limit on the state’s narrow two-lane farm-to-market roads
with no improved shoulders has failed.
The bill, authored by Sen. Steve Ogden, R-College Station, was
still in a Senate panel when the Legislature adjourned earlier this month.
SB662 would have reduced car and truck speeds from 70 mph to
60 mph during the day and 65 mph to 55 mph at night.
