5/5/03-A new state law pinches the wallets of speeding and aggressive
drivers through higher fines.
SB1093 allows the Virginia Department of Transportation commissioner
to double fines for speeding, tailgating and other “aggressive
driving” violations in stretches of highway designated “highway
safety corridors.”
As written, the law sets fines between $200 and $500.
Signs will warn drivers that they’re entering a safety corridor,
similar to the special zones set up to protect road construction
crews.
The bill passed the General Assembly in March and was signed
into law by the governor later that month. It goes into effect July
1.
