10/28/03-An Assembly panel is reviewing legislation that would require
Wisconsin drivers to flip on their headlights when weather limits visibility.
AB22, sponsored by Rep. John Ainsworth, R-Shawano, would permit
police to ticket drivers for failure to turn on their headlights during
bad weather if pulled over for some other offense.
Fines would be $10 for the first offense and $25 for the second
offense. Court fees added to most tickets could hike those penalties
to $131.40 and $150, respectively.
The bill is in the Assembly Committee on Highway Safety.
