2/18/03-A Wisconsin
lawmaker has introduced legislation to prohibit drivers' use of
cellular phones.
AB58, introduced by Rep. Carol Owens, R-Oshkosh, would make using a
cell phone while driving a primary offense, meaning police could pull
over any driver seen talking on a phone.
Violators could be fined as much as $400. The bill would exempt emergency
calls.
Owens told Land Line she plans to add an amendment to the measure permitting
"hands-free" devices.
The bill is in Assembly highway safety committee. For bill status, call
