4/24/01 - Gov. Jim Geringer has signed HB231 into law to protect highway patrol and other emergency personnel during roadside stops. Effective July 1, the law will require drivers of all highway vehicles to maintain a safe distance and speed when passing emergency vehicles parked by the road with their lights flashing. On highways, the law requires you to merge into the furthest lane away from an emergency vehicle. On two-lane roads, slow down to 20 miles below the posted speed. According to the Wyoming Highway Patrol, violators could face up to $750 in fines and six months in jail. Wyoming lawmakers went home March 1.
