2/10/03-A bill to redirect $14 million a year in existing federal mineral royalties and severance tax revenues to a new state multi-lane highway fund has been axed by lawmakers.
The state Transportation Department said HB22 would merely reverse the effects of de-earmarking legislation that took effect in 2001, but only to the extent the legislation affected the agency.
Instead of simply giving the money to the department, the measure specified putting the money into a fund specifically for the highway-widening project.

1/27/03-The Wyoming Department of Transportation is pressing state lawmakers to authorize diverting funds for highway projects.
HB22 would redirect $14 million a year in existing federal mineral royalties and severance tax revenues to a new multi-lane highway fund.
WYDOT said the bill would merely reverse the effects of de-earmarking legislation that took effect in 2001, but only to the extent the legislation affected the agency.
Instead of simply giving the money to the department, HB22 specifies putting the money into a fund specifically for the highway-widening project.
The bill has been sent to the House appropriations committee. For bill status, call (307) 777-6185. In Wyoming, call 1-800-342-9570.
