2/10/03-A bill to redirect
$14 million a year in existing federal mineral royalties and severance
tax revenues to a new state multi-lane highway fund has been axed by
lawmakers.
The state Transportation Department said HB22 would merely reverse the
effects of de-earmarking legislation that took effect in 2001, but only
to the extent the legislation affected the agency.
Instead of simply giving the money to the department, the measure specified
putting the money into a fund specifically for the highway-widening
project.
