11/4/04-Fifty-seven percent of voters in Maricopa County voted Nov. 2 in favor of Proposition 400 – a 20-year extension to the half-cent transportation tax to generate $15.8 billion to build new roads, widen freeways and expand the Valley’s light-rail system.
It will generate $8.5 billion towards a $16 billion regional transportation plan.
The state Legislature and Gov. Janet Napolitano signed off on the ballot initiative earlier this year, clearing the way for voters to decide on the extension on Election Day.
